Russia-U.S. cybersecurity cooperation could resume with relevant resolve from Washington - Russian Security Council

MOSCOW. Dec 1 (Interfax) - Cooperation between Russia and the United States against cyber criminals, discontinued from 2022, could resume if there is such resolve on the U.S. side, Russian Security Council deputy secretary Oleg Khramov said.

"The resumption of our cooperation with the U.S. in this sphere and further interaction are possible with the relevant resolve in Washington on the basis of compliance with provisions of the effective Russia-U.S. Treaty on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters, dated June 17, 1999," Khramov said in an interview with the Kommersant newspaper.

The cooperation began several years ago and resulted in the elimination of an international hacking group, he said.

At the time, a working group existed under the aegis of Russia's Security Council and the U.S. National Security Council, he said.

"But from March 2022 the White House unilaterally ended its participation in the activities of that working group and refused from jointly discussing issues concerning the security of critical infrastructure," Khramov said.
