Azerbaijan planning to build 600 MW wind farm in Caspian Sea

BAKU. Dec 1 (Interfax) - The Azerbaijani Energy Ministry has recruited the Azerbaijani company Clean Energy Capital to the project for constructing offshore wind energy installations in the Caspian Sea, the ministry said.

The parties signed an executive agreement on Friday for the project to assess, develop and implement the construction of an offshore wind energy facility. The project involves establishing a wind farm with a total capacity of 600 MW, including 200 MW at the initial stage.

"In accordance with the agreement, Clean Energy Capital will conduct research in the allocated water area in the Caspian Sea," the ministry said.

As reported, Azerbaijan plans to commission 6 GW of wind energy capacity on land and at sea by 2032. According to the Offshore Wind Roadmap prepared by the World Bank, the total technical potential of wind energy in the Azerbaijani part of the Caspian Sea is estimated at 157 GW, of which 35 GW is in shallow water and 122 GW is in deep water.

Clean Energy Capital LLC, a subsidiary of Azerbaijan Green Energy Company (AGEC), specializes in investments in renewable energy projects.
