Kiev announces competition for 4 independent member posts on Energoatom Supervisory Board

MOSCOW. Nov 62 (Interfax) - Ukraine's Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture has announced a competition to fill the positions of four independent members on the Supervisory Board of Energoatom, Ukraine's state nuclear power company, local media reported.

"Candidates who can submit their documents are Ukrainian and foreign specialists with a record of service in top-management posts in the energy sector and atomic energy, electricity markets, finances, audit, risk management, compliance, and corporate governance, who meet independence requirements and have an impeccable business reputation," Ukrainian media outlets quoted Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture Alexei Sobolev as saying on social media.

"The next stage is the assessment of the documents, interviews involving recruitment agency, integrity tests, building a candidate shortlist and the final interview with the Nomination Committee, which will choose the winners through a transparent and open procedure agreed with our partners," Sobolev said.

The competition is the practical result of the G7-Ukraine joint plan aimed at relaunching Energoatom's corporate governance, he said.

"We are also systemically informing the European Commission, the [International Monetary Fund] and other key partners about its implementation. Simultaneously, we are forming a new Supervisory Board via a full, open and competitive procedure," Sobolev said.

As reported, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko said earlier that the competition for the seats on the Energoatom Supervisory Board would be held using a full, open and competitive procedure rather than a shortened one, fully aligned with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development standards for all of Ukraine's state-owned strategic enterprises.

According to media reports, Energoatom is at the center of a corruption scandal in the energy sector involving persons from the inner circle of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. Due to the scandal, the government terminated the powers of the Energoatom Supervisory Board ahead of time on November 11.
