EU diplomacy chief speaks for use of frozen Russian assets to finance Ukraine

BERLIN. Nov 14 (Interfax) - The use of the frozen Russian assets is a preferable way to continue financing Ukraine, EU diplomacy chief Kaja Kallas said.

"Ukraine will need more funding next year. There are several options, but using immobilized Russian assets is the most clear-cut way to sustain Ukraine's defense," Kallas told a press conference in Berlin on Friday.

She also said it is necessary to continue using sanctions "to apply pressure on Russia."

"Work is going on the 20th package of sanctions, and sanctions clearly work better when they are matched by our international partners," Kallas said, referring to the most recent sanctions introduced by the United States against Russia.

A meeting of the European Group of Five - the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Poland, and France - which are working on developing joint production capacities in the defense sector, took place in Berlin.
