Forex purchases by Ukrainian population exceed sales in Oct 2025

MOSCOW. Nov 11 (Interfax) - The volume of foreign currency purchases by the Ukrainian population exceeded the volume of foreign currency sales by $750 million in October 2025, which is almost twice as much as $380 million in September but is considerably lower than $1.28 billion recorded in October 2024.

Cash forex purchases by the population increased by $361.9 million month-on-month to $2.248 billion in October 2025, while cash forex sales dropped by $2.2 million to $1.501 billion in the reporting period, Ukrainian media said, citing data published on the website of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).

Purchases of cash U.S. dollars by private individuals in October 2025 amounted to $1.459 billion, $162 million more than in September, and their sales also increased by $8.3 million to $1.126 billion, the NBU said.

At the same time, private individuals' purchases of cash euros in the dollar equivalent increased by $202.9 million to $724.6 million in October 2025, while their sales fell by $6.1 million to $314.1 million.

Non-cash forex purchases by bank clients increased by an equivalent of $530.2 million to $9.452 billion and sales grew by $337.4 million to $7.997 billion in October.

Transactions between banks grew by $257 million month-on-month to $6.904 billion in October.

In October 2024, purchases of non-cash foreign currency by bank clients declined by $402.1 million and sales were down $445.9 million. At the same time, transactions between banks grew by $694 million.

The hryvnia exchange rate grew noticeably in October compared with September - by 65 kopecks to UAH 41.97/$1, as the U.S. dollar strengthened globally and due to seasonal factors.

Meanwhile, the euro's exchange rate in Ukraine did not change significantly in October, with the official exchange rate gaining only seven kopecks to UAH 48.51/EUR1.

The NBU's net forex interventions grew by $625 million month-on-month to $2.915 billion in October, down from $3.428 billion in October 2024.
