Tajik president, Qatari emir discuss broader trade, economic, investment cooperation

DUSHANBE. Nov 5 (Interfax) - Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has met with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani on the sidelines of the UN World Summit for Social Development in Doha, the Tajik presidential press service said on Tuesday.

"Emphasis was put on broadening trade, economic and investment cooperation, including that in energy, industries, extraction and processing of minerals, and agriculture. The importance of Qatari investments in hydropower projects and renewable energy generation was emphasized," the press service said.

The sides also discussed closer cooperation in labor migration, culture, science, education and tourism.

Tajikistan supported Qatari mediation efforts towards settling the situation in the Middle East, including the Gaza Strip.
