Baku sends cooperation proposals to Washington

BAKU. Oct 31 (Interfax) - Baku has sent Washington its proposals in the framework of strategic partnership, the Azerbaijani president's aide in charge of foreign policy in the presidential administration, Hikmet Hajiyev, said.

During President Ilham Aliyev's visit to the U.S. on August 8, 2025, the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding to upgrade their relations to strategic partnership, Hajiyev said in an interview with Baku TV.

"A provision of the memorandum of understanding stipulates the creation of a working group between the two countries to draft proposals on the agenda and content of our strategic partnership. The U.S. State Department said the U.S. side created such a group; the corresponding group exists in Azerbaijan as well. Azerbaijan has submitted its proposals to the U.S.," Hajiyev said.

The memorandum involves cooperation on energy, transport, artificial intelligence, high technologies, defense, security and in other areas, he said.

He also commented on a possibility of Aliyev's attendance of a European Political Community (EPC) summit in Armenia next May. "Firstly, we have yet to receive a formal letter inviting the Azerbaijani president to attend the EPC summit due to be held in Yerevan. Secondly, given the circumstances, we don't think Azerbaijan's participation in that event at the highest level will be possible," Hajiyev said.
