Moldovan PM candidate presents new govt program, composition in parliament
CHISINAU. Oct 31 (Interfax) - The Moldovan parliament is discussing the confirmation of a new national government led by Alexandru Munteanu on Friday.
Munteanu, nominated for prime minister by President Maia Sandu, presented the composition and program of the new government and said that Moldova's course towards joining the European Union remained unwavering.
"It is the mission of the new government to do so that integration with the European Union brings tangible advantages to the people before the accession happens, such as large investments for a competitive economy, highly paid jobs, accessible public services, and a friendly state that meets real needs of society," Munteanu said.
"The European integration presents a historic opportunity for Moldova to fully unlock its human, economic and cultural potential. [...] We may argue about the time of Moldova's integration with the European Union but the country's course towards joining the European Union remains unwavering," he said.
He pledged that the government would be honoring obligations under the existing national strategies, programs and development plans, the program of reforms and European integration, and the EU 2028 program of the ruling Party of Action and Solidarity.
In accordance with the Moldovan constitution, the designated prime minister asks the parliament to confirm the new government's composition and program. Based on the vote of confidence, the president formally appoints the government, which starts to fulfill its duties the day it is sworn in before the president.
