Trump explains U.S. nuclear tests' resumption with similar tests conducted by other countries

WASHINGTON. Oct 30 (Interfax) - The United States' decision to resume nuclear tests after a 30-year-moratorum derives from similar tests conducted by other countries, U.S. President Donald Trump said.

"We have more nuclear weapons than anybody. We don't do testing [...], but with others doing testing I think it's appropriate that we do also," Trump told reporters onboard Air Force One.

"They seem to all be nuclear testing," Trump said.

He did not say when and where nuclear tests would be carried out in the United States but said, "It'll be announced, you know, we have test sites."

"I'd like to see a denuclearization," Trump added.

"We are actually talking to Russia about that and China would be added to that if we do something," he said.

Trump said on Truth Social earlier on Thursday, "Because of other countries testing programs, I have instructed the Department of War to start testing our Nuclear Weapons on an equal basis. That process will begin immediately."

Russia ranks the world's second by nuclear weapon stocks, "and China is a distant third, but will be even within five years," Trump said.
