Sberbank creating unit for developing generative AI, will be headed by Frolov from VK

MOSCOW. Oct 30 (Interfax) - Sberbank is creating a new unit for developing generative artificial intelligence, and it will be headed by Anton Frolov, who previously held the post of chief technology officer (CTO) of the VK holding, the bank said.

Sberbank is developing its own generative AI platform, built on Russian infrastructure and taking into account national priorities in the field of security and openness of technologies, the bank said.

"The separation of this area into a separate unit underscores its priority significance - both for Sberbank and for tens of millions of clients who already use the ecosystem's AI solutions in their daily lives," it said.

Frolov has more than ten years of experience in creating and scaling high-tech products. At Yandex, he developed Yandex.Translate and Search, and then joined the Zen team, where over three years he progressed from CTO to CEO. After the sale of Zen to VK Group in 2022, Frolov headed the AI and recommendation services division, and in 2025 he was appointed chief technology officer of VK.

At Sberbank, Frolov will focus on developing the technological foundation of generative AI (platforms and models).
