Kremlin welcomes new Japanese PM's intent to conclude peace treaty with Russia
MOSCOW. Oct 24 (Interfax) - The Kremlin welcomes the intent of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to conclude a peace treaty with Russia, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
"Such statements are quite welcome. We also support the conclusion of a peace treaty with Japan," Peskov told the press, as he commented on a speech of the new Japanese prime minister at the parliament.
"At the same time, we have to state, to our regret, that Japan maintains a rather unfriendly position on Russia and has joined all illegal sanctions and restrictions on our country," Peskov said.
"The bilateral dialogue has been practically reduced to zero" in recent years because of the position of the Japanese government, he said.
