Over 700 bln rubles to be invested in cluster for advanced processing of critical metals in Siberia - Russian Security Council secretary

MOSCOW. Oct 24 (Interfax) - More than 700 billion rubles is expected to be invested in the creation of a cluster for the advanced processing of critical metals in the Angara-Yenisei macro-region, and at least 3,500 jobs will be created at the project's first stage, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu said.

"A cluster for the advanced processing of critical metals in the Angara-Yenisei macro-region is an ecosystem that brings together science, education, industry, and investment. The project is being implemented in the Greater Siberia territory, incorporating dozens of enterprises, research centers and universities into one network. The total volume of investment is estimated at more than 700 billion rubles, while there will be at lest 3,500 new jobs at the first stage alone," Shoigu said in an article published in the Izvestia newspaper on Friday.

These personnel numbers do not include an increase in the size of personnel in allied and service companies, as well as highly skilled scientists and engineers invited to work in Siberia to set up new science and engineering schools, he said.

In addition to rare and rare-earth metals, the cluster will also develop new materials, semiconductors, power electronics, 3D printing, robotic engineering, and artificial intelligence, Shoigu said.

The implementation of large-scale transport projects will also help create a global innovation hub in Siberia, he said.

"Projects such as the Central Eurasian transport corridor, the Northern Latitude route and others will inevitably prove their relevance and significance as manufacturing and innovation activity in Siberia grows," Shoigu said.

"The high-quality implementation of these projects will provide new principles for communication and movement of people and cargo between the regions of Siberia, will enhance the mobility and engagement of the Global South, and will help form a global innovation hub involving high-quality human capital in the development of Siberia," Shoigu said.
