Nornickel cuts Q3 nickel output 4%, copper 7%
MOSCOW. Oct 23 (Interfax) - MMC Norilsk Nickel produced 53,550 tonnes of nickel in Q3 2025, down 4% year-on-year, the company said.
Copper production was 7% lower at 100,100 tonnes due to a higher share of disseminated ores, as well as the need of restocking work-in-progress material.
Copper production fell 7% to 100,100 tonnes in Q3.
The company reiterated its 2025 metals production guidance, adjusted in the middle of the year. It plans to produce 196,000-204,000 tonnes of nickel, previous forecast 204,000-211,000 tonnes, and 343,000-355,000 tonnes of copper, previously 353,000-373,000 tonnes. Norilsk Nickel's Trans-Baikal Division still intends to produce 66,000-70,000 tonnes of copper concentrate.
Nornickel reduced copper production 4% year-on-year to 313,000 tonnes in 9M 2025. Copper production at the Trans-Baikal Division decreased slightly compared to last year, to 52,000 tonnes.
"In 9M 2025, the output of all key metals slightly decreased compared to the same period of last year. The adjustment was driven by a temporary decline in ore output owing to the gradual transition to new mining equipment at Polar Division as part of the import substitution program, change in the composition of mined ore - increased share of disseminated ores, as well as the need of restocking work-in-progress material," said Yevgeny Fyodorov, Nornickel First Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer.
