U.S. Dept of the Treasury announces new sanctions against Russia - document

WASHINGTON. Oct 23 (Interfax) - The U.S. Department of the Treasury is imposing additional sanctions on Russia targeting the Rosneft and Lukoil oil companies.

"Today, the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) is imposing further sanctions as a result of Russia's lack of serious commitment to a peace process to end the war in Ukraine," the Department of the Treasury said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Today's action targets Russia's two largest oil companies, Open Joint Stock Company Rosneft Oil Company (Rosneft) and Lukoil OAO (Lukoil), which are now designated," the statement said.

The sanctions also apply to six subsidiaries of Lukoil, including Lukoil West Siberia and Lukoil Kaliningradmorneft.

The sanctions also target more than 30 Rosneft subsidiaries, including Sibneftegaz, Rospan International, and RN Purneftegaz.

"All entities owned 50 percent or more, directly or indirectly, by Rosneft and Lukoil are blocked pursuant to E.O. 14024, even if not designated by OFAC," the statement said.

The United Kingdom imposed sanctions on Rosneft and Lukoil last week. The European Union is now finalizing its next package of anti-Russian sanctions, and it was reported earlier that it would include a ban on transactions with Rosneft and Gazprom Neft.
