WhatsApp, Telegram still operating with restrictions in Russia - Roskomnadzor

MOSCOW. Oct 21 (Interfax) - The messaging apps WhatsApp and Telegram remain blocked on Russian territory, Russia's Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) said in a statement in reply to a query on Tuesday.

"There was no decision to lift the restrictions," the statement said.

On Tuesday several media reports citing users said that voice calls via those apps were again available.

On August 13, the Roskomnadzor press service reported "partial restriction of calls" in the Telegram and WhatsApp messengers in accordance with the law enforcement agencies' materials to counter criminals.
