Kazan aviation plant to launch key facilities for Tu-214 serial production in 2025 - authorities

KAZAN. Oct 17 (Interfax) - Gorbunov Kazan Aviation Plant, a subsidiary of PJSC Tupolev , plans to commission the main production facilities for the Tu-214 passenger jet in 2025, Tatarstan Head Rustam Minnikhanov said during his annual address to the republic's parliament on Friday.

"Upgrading continues at Kazan Aviation Plant, and the main industrial facilities will be commissioned this year, thus enabling serial production of the Tu-214," Minnikhanov said.

The Tu-214 is a medium-haul passenger jet with seating for up to 210 passengers and a maximum range of 6,500 km. Kazan Aviation Plant has manufactured the aircraft in limited quantities since 1996.

The authorities decided to resume serial production of the Tu-214 after the West had imposed sanctions against Russia, which limited the supply of Boeing and Airbus aircraft. Manufacturing is planned to increase to at least 20 aircraft per year by 2027-2028, Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov said.

Minnikhanov was appointed chairman of Tupolev's board of directors in 2021. In June 2024, Rostec state corporation announced his reappointment as chairman of the board.
