Putin opposes 'mechanically' raising electricity tariffs for consumers to cover energy company expenditures
MOSCOW. Oct 16 (Interfax) - Russian energy companies should not pin their expenses on consumers "mechanically" via increased tariffs, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a plenary session at Russian Energy Week 2025.
"I must emphasize that energy companies should not mechanically load their expenses onto consumers' shoulders via tariffs," he said.
"It is essential that we find more flexible solutions, including legislative innovations, electricity demand management and mechanisms to support investment," the president said. He said that he would await corresponding proposals from the government.
He also requested that the Cabinet of Ministers finish preparing its concept for retail electricity markets "as quickly as possible".
