Moscow Regional Court upholds ruling to recover 40 mln rubles from Tinkov in favor of businessman Deripaska in defamation case

MOSCOW. Oct 15 (Interfax) - The Moscow Regional Court on Wednesday upheld a ruling to recover monetary compensation from Oleg Tinkov (designated a foreign agent in Russia) for defaming businessman Oleg Deripaska.

"The court of appeal dismissed Oleg Tinkov's appeal against Moscow region's Reutov town court ruling to recover 40 million rubles from him," Deripaska's lawyer Alexei Melnikov told Interfax.

The lower-tier court's ruling has therefore taken effect on Wednesday and must be enforced.

Deripaska plans to donate the money to the development of children's sports in the Krasnodar Territory, Melnikov said.

"We are pleased with the court's ruling and deem it lawful and justified. Billionaire Tinkov's arguments that he was charged a lot were reasonably rejected, since more than 28 million people have read the disputed information, and it turns out that for one such viewing, Tinkov was charged around 1 ruble and 37 kopecks, which is obviously not excessive," he said.
