EBRD preparing extra 500 mln euros to fund Ukraine's urgent gas imports

MOSCOW. Oct 15 (Interfax) - The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is preparing an additional financing package of 500 million euros for Ukraine's Naftogaz to fund urgent gas imports, Ukrainian media reported citing EBRD Vice President Matteo Patrone.

"We are already preparing another 500-million-euro package for Naftogaz to cover urgent gas imports. However, this will only make a real difference if we get a substantial contribution from donors," media outlets quoted Patrone as saying in an interview with the Kyiv Post online newspaper.

The EBRD has started consultations with "Ukraine's friends and partners" to help the country get through the heating season, although it is still too early to share any specific plans, he said.

In 2025 alone, the EBRD has already deployed 1.15 billion euros in Ukraine's energy sector, including 770 million in EBRD loans to Naftogaz for gas procurement, a further 219 million euros in grants from Norway, and 160 million euros to Ukrnafta for new distributed gas-fired co-generation capacity, Patrone said.

In total, the EBRD has provided nearly 2.3 billion euros to Ukraine this year, which is more than the figure for the whole of 2024, he said. The financing has been distributed across 46 private sector and seven public sector projects in Ukraine.
