Belarusian-Russian satellite launch scheduled for 2028

MINSK. Oct 15 (Interfax) - A Belarusian-Russian satellite is slated to be launched in 2028, the director of Geoinformation Systems of the Belarusian Academy of Sciences, Sergei Zolotoi, said.

"Russia is making the platform and ensuring the launch, while Belarus is making the telescope and ground control infrastructure. The satellite launch is tentatively scheduled for 2028," Zolotoi was quoted by the BelTA state news agency as telling journalists on Tuesday.

In 2012 Belarus launched its first Earth remote sensing satellite on a Russian platform, he said.

"This successful experience in international cooperation has yielded a result. Currently Russia and Belarus have a joint large group of satellites flying in orbit to provide our countries with two-meter space images," Zolotoi said.

This area will be developed further to create a satellite with a super-high resolution of 35 centimeters, he said. "The cooperation is the same here," Zolotoi said.
