Annual inflation in Moldova accelerates to 5.2% in Sept
CHISINAU. Oct 10 (Interfax) - Consumer prices in Moldova increased 0.5% in September 2024 compared to August and 5% in 9M compared to December of the previous year, the country's National Bureau of Statistics said.
Annual inflation in September compared to September 2024 accelerated to 5.2% from 3.8% in June.
Food products became 1.5% more expensive in September compared to August, up 5% in 9M, while non-food products became 0.2% less expensive (+3.5%). Public services became 0.4% more expensive (+7.3%).
Inflation in Moldova fell to 4.2% in 2023 from a record 30.2% in 2022.
In August, the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) improved its inflation forecast for this year by 0.3 percentage points (p.p.) and now expects consumer price growth at the level of 4.7%. However, the NBM worsened the inflation forecast for 2025 from 4.6% to 5.3%.
Overall, according to the NBM's forecast, inflation will fluctuate around the target of 5% plus-minus 1.5 p.p. and will remain within the established range during 2024-2026.
