Putin declines to say whether Trump deserves Nobel Peace Prize but notes he is definitely working for peace
DUSHANBE. Oct 10 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has declined to say whether U.S. President Donald Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize but noted that Trump has been doing a lot to solve protracted international crises.
"I do not know whether the incumbent U.S. president deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, I do not know that, but he is really doing a lot to solve complicated crises, which have been on for years or even for decades," Putin said at a press conference in Dushanbe.
In particular, he referred to Trump's stance on the Ukrainian crisis. "I know for a fact that he sincerely wants [to solve] the crisis in Ukraine. Some things have been done, some have not, and some may still be done on the basis of the Anchorage agreements and discussions. Still, he is definitely trying and working for peace and for the resolution of difficult situations," Putin said.
"The situation in the Middle East is the most illustrative example," he said.
If U.S. President Donald Trump pursues his efforts to settle the situation in the Middle East until the end, this would be a historical event, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"He is certainly trying, certainly working on those issues. The issues of attaining peace and solving complicated international situations. Here is the most illustrative of examples: the situation in the Middle East. If everything goes through, which Donald always strove for, everything that he said and everything he is trying to do - well, it's a historical event, simply a historical event," Putin told the press conference.
