Russian, S. Sudan FMs discuss bilateral cooperation prospects
MOSCOW. Sept 26 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with his South Sudanese counterpart Monday Simaya Kumba on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly on Thursday.
"Key areas for developing Russian-South Sudanese cooperation in various areas, including a deeper political dialogue and closer interaction in the United Nations and on other multilateral platforms were discussed," a statement, published on the Russian Foreign Ministry's website, said.
"Emphasis was put on the situation in South Sudan during the discussion of regional affairs," it said.
The parties noted "the importance of searching for ways of a peaceful resolution of the internal conflict and the restoration of peace and stability in South Sudan and reaffirmed the significance of related efforts of the South Sudanese government and the regional community," it said.
