Niger suggests Rosatom participate in NPP project in Niger

MOSCOW. Sept 25 (Interfax) - Niger suggests that the Russian state corporation Rosatom should participate in a project to build a nuclear power plant of capacity of 2,000 megawatt, Niger's Mines Minister Ousmane Abarchi, said.

"We would like to build on our territory two 2000 megawatt reactors," he said, adding that it is the country's proposal to Rosatom.

"We are ready to develop this project jointly with Rosatom under the control of the IAEA," he said.

Abarchi said in May 2025 Niger was inviting Rosatom to work together on mining projects in the country. "We call on our global technological partners, first and foremost Rosatom, to join us in developing new mining projects, which would be founded on innovation, transparency and longevity," Abarchi said.

Niger has considerable uranium resources, especially in the northern regions, where the total deposits exceed 5,000 tonnes of uranium, according to data provided by an official.
