Kyrgyzstan, Inter RAO Export exploring construction of 500 MW thermal power plant - Kyrgyz deputy energy minister

MOSCOW. Sept 25 (Interfax) - Kyrgyzstan and Inter RAO Export are exploring the issue of constructing a 500 MW thermal power plant, Kyrgyz Deputy Energy Minister Altynbek Rysbekov said during World Atomic Week.

Kyrgyzstan is also discussing the issue of building nuclear capacity with Rosatom, studying the location and what capacity the future nuclear generation could be, Rysbekov said.

Kyrgyzstan is considering several ways to cover the growing demand for electricity in the country, he said. In particular, projects for reconstructing hydroelectric power plants, constructing new thermal capacity and renewable energy sources are being worked on.

Kyrgyzstan currently imports electricity from neighboring countries, including Russia.
