European Commission disburses 1 bln euros to Ukraine under G7 loans initiative

BRUSSELS. Sept 11 (Interfax) - The European Commission said on Thursday that it had disbursed another 1 billion euros to Ukraine as part of the European Union's contribution to the G7-led Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration (ERA) loans initiative.

"The European Commission has disbursed the eighth tranche of its exceptional Macro-Financial Assistance (MFA) loan to Ukraine, worth 1 billion euros, further reinforcing the EU's role as Ukraine's largest donor," the European Commission said in a statement published on Thursday.

In total, the MFA amounts to 18.1 billion euros and represents the EU's contribution to the G7-led ERA loans initiative, which collectively aims to provide approximately 45 billion euros in financial support to Ukraine, the statement said.

With this latest payment, the European Commission's total support to Ukraine under this MFA has reached 10 billion euros since the start of 2025.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in her State of the Union address to the European Parliament on September 10 that the European Commission will allocate 6 billion euros for military expenditures from the EU contribution to the ERA loans initiative, the statement said.

"The ERA loans from G7 partners as well as the EU's MFA loan are being repaid using proceeds from immobilized Russian state assets held in the EU," the statement said.

The EU's overall support for Kiev has amounted to over 170 billion euros, it said.
