Russia ready to offer China supplies of aircraft components, including heavy engine, composite wing - deputy PM

SAMARA. Sept 8 (Interfax) - Russia may offer China, which is developing its own long-range wide-body aircraft, supplies of the heavy PD-26 engine in the future, which will be used on the Il-100 transport aircraft and possibly on the MC-21-500 and 600, First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov told journalists.

The decision lies with Chinese partners, Manturov said.

"First, the aircraft itself does not exist yet, so when the aircraft appears, these supplies will appear. We are ready to carry out such supplies. First of all, we are talking about the competencies we have formed, including under the MC-21 project," he said.

"This is a composite wing and, in particular, a heavy engine based on the PD-35 gas generator - a 26-tonne thrust engine, which is now being used as the basis for the Il-100, a military transport aircraft, and possibly a future version of the MC-21-500 and 600, where the PD-26 will also be used," he said.

When asked if these components are already being incorporated into the project, Manturov said: "Such an option exists, but this will be a decision of our Chinese partners."

The PD-26 engine is currently under development, but Russia already has a line of aircraft engines installed on its aircraft, including the PD-8 and PD-14 on the MC-21 and SJ-100. Manturov did not comment on the supplies of these aircraft engines. "We try not to reveal those directions that relate to such sensitive areas, so as not to confuse colleagues, if they themselves voice what is on the agenda, meaning in terms of engine building. I can say that we have been cooperating in this direction for many years," he said.

Regarding the PD-26, United Engine Corporation (UEC) previously said that work on the preliminary design based on the developed PD-35 gas generator has been completed to date. The project defense is planned for September 2025 with the closure of the state contract between the Industry and Trade Ministry and PJSC Il .
