Moldova commissions 60 MW solar power plant park

CHISINAU. Sept 3 (Interfax) - Moldovan companies that won a tender for renewable energy construction this summer have commissioned a park of solar power plants with a capacity of 60 MW, the Moldovan Energy Ministry said.

"All photovoltaic stations developed by the investors who won the first auction to obtain the status of a large qualified producer have been officially commissioned," the ministry said.

In June this year, the Energy Ministry identified a number of unnamed Moldovan companies that will build renewable energy generation facilities with a capacity of 165 MW, including solar power plants with a capacity of 60 MW and wind power plants with a capacity of 105 MW.

The Energy Ministry also said that in August, the government officially granted investors the status of a qualified large producer, which allowed them to conclude guaranteed electricity purchase and sale agreements with the state-owned company Energocom for a period of 15 years. The prices for electricity from renewables determined as a result of the auction are among the most competitive in Energocom's portfolio - 59.1 euros per 1 MWh for solar energy and 67.2 euros per 1 MWh for wind energy.

According to the Energy Ministry's estimate, after the solar installations' commissioning, their share in Moldova's annual electricity consumption will be around 8.4%. After the first year of operation, the share of electricity from renewable sources in final consumption is expected to reach 30%.

Private investment in creating 165 MW of renewables amounts to around 190 million euros.

The total installed capacity of renewables generation reached 784.09 MW by the end of July, up by 204.7 MW compared to the end of 2024, the ministry said.

Moldova's renewable generation produced 691,000 MWh of electricity in 2024, which accounted for 16.7% of annual consumption.
