Sibagro considers selling hatching eggs on open market
TOMSK. Sept 3 (Interfax) - The Sibagro holding may begin selling hatching eggs to third-party enterprises, the director of the Tomskaya poultry farm (part of the Sibagro holding), Alexei Krivchenkov, said in an interview with Interfax.
"Currently, the Yasnogorskoye division [in the Kemerovo region, where hatching eggs are produced] is not operating at full capacity. We are using about 50% of the technological facilities, meeting only the needs of our broiler population. If necessary, we can double the capacity of the breeder facility in Kemerovo. But then we would need to expand the broiler site or conduct a market analysis," Krivchenkov said.
Market research would take around six months, he said. By the beginning of 2026, the company expects to decide on the possibilities of selling the product.
"It is important to understand here that eggs have a short shelf life, 5-12 days, no more. Holding eggs for more than seven days makes no sense, it is economically unprofitable. I think it will take us about six months to understand the hatching egg market, to enter it with an understanding of our surpluses and what kind of long-term contract we can offer. If we periodically sell off surpluses, nothing will work out; supplies must be regular," he said.
Since the purchase of the Yasnogorskoye division, the holding has reconstructed the buildings and modernized production technology. This has led to increased productivity.
"If the yield of hatching eggs was previously 90%-91%, now it is 94%-95%. That is, out of a thousand eggs, we previously received 900 hatching eggs, and now - up to 950. If you multiply this by the total amounts, the difference turns out to be colossal. Our surplus of gross hatching eggs is around 200,000-300,000. And if we previously thought about purchasing additional eggs, now it's the opposite. If things continue like this, we will be able to sell them on the open market," he said.
As reported, the Yasnogorskaya poultry farm (now the Kemerovo site of the Tomskaya poultry farm) became part of the holding in 2022. In December of the same year, Sibagro Group began its own production of hatching eggs. This made it possible to grow its own parent stock to replace the hatching eggs that the holding previously purchased from Portugal.
Sibagro is a vertically integrated agricultural holding, founded in Tomsk in 2000. It unites 14 livestock and meat processing enterprises in the Ural, Siberian, Central and Far Eastern federal districts.
