No exceedances of maximum permissible concentrations of pollutants in water, air detected after oil spill clean-up, shoreline is clean - Caspian Pipeline Consortium

MOSCOW. Sept 1 (Interfax) - The Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) has reported on the results of environmental monitoring of seawater and atmospheric air in the area of the marine terminal after the elimination of the emergency situation that occurred on August 29.

"No contamination of the shoreline has been recorded. Sorbents were not used during the clean-up of the emergency situation. Monitoring of seawater for petroleum product content is carried out twice a day with the involvement of an accredited third-party laboratory. Over the preceding period, 115 samples have been collected. According to environmental monitoring data, no exceedances of maximum permissible concentrations (MPC) of pollutants in water or air have been recorded after the completion of the oil spill response (OSR) operation since August 30, 2025," the CPC said.

During the OSR operation, sampling in the area of the single point mooring (SPM) and in the area of the boom deployment was conducted from a vessel involved in the containment and clean-up of the oil spill. After the completion of the work, five control points for sampling were selected - east of SPM-2 towards the village of Shirokaya Balka, a kilometer from SPM-3 towards the shore, opposite the beach of the village of Dyurso, opposite the Fregat recreational center (in the vicinity of Sukhaya Shchel), and in the area of Maly Utrish.

"From the evening of August 30, 2025, to the present, sampling has been conducted at the above-mentioned control points twice a day - in the morning and in the evening," the CPC said.

As reported, the emergency situation occurred on August 29 during a cargo operation on the tanker T. Semahat via the hoses of the remote mooring facility N2, resulting in a certain amount of oil reaching the sea's surface. The causes of the incident are being investigated, and SPM-2 has been taken out of service indefinitely.
