Moldovagaz signs contract with Energocom for servicing end consumers

CHISINAU. Aug 28 (Interfax) - JSC Moldovagaz, over 60% of the shares of which are controlled by Gazprom , and the state company Energocom have signed a contract for invoicing and servicing end consumers for a period of seven months with the possibility of its extension, the acting chairman of the Moldovagaz board Vadim Ceban said.

"The supply of natural gas to end consumers from September 1, 2025, will be carried out by JSC Energocom, while the service of invoicing and consumer servicing for the duration of the contract will be performed by JSC Moldovagaz. Currently, the existing tariffs for end consumers will remain in force until the ANRE [the state energy regulator] approves new regulated prices," Ceban said on his Telegram channel.

The contract with Energocom was concluded in connection with the transfer of public service supplier authority for natural gas supply to it and based on the requirements of Moldova's law on natural gas, he said.

"The 12 gas distribution companies that are part of the Moldovagaz group will ensure stable and uninterrupted gas supply to all end consumers within the framework of the public service obligation," Ceban said.

It was previously reported that in early August, the Moldovan National Agency for Energy Regulation revoked Moldovagaz's license for supplying natural gas, and from September 1, Energocom will become the main gas supplier for more than 830,000 end consumers in Moldova. Moldovagaz will continue its distribution activities. At the same time, Moldovagaz has been designated as the entity that will supply gas to Transdniestria until April 1, 2026.

Since December 2022, right-bank Moldova has been purchasing gas on the European market, with supplies carried out by Moldovagaz. At the same time, Moldovagaz directly supplied Russian gas to Transdniestria until January 1, 2025.

At the beginning of the week, Moldovan Energy Minister Dorin Recean said that Energocom has purchased 620 million cubic meters of gas for the upcoming heating season, which constitutes around 80% of the needs of right-bank Moldova.
