U.S. holding meetings this week, including on Ukraine settlement - Witkoff
WASHINGTON. Aug 27 (Interfax) - The United States is this week holding meetings to resolve a number of international conflicts, including the Ukrainian one, the U.S. president's special envoy Steve Witkoff said on Tuesday.
"Russia-Ukraine, Iran, Israel-Hamas. We are having meetings all this week on all three those conflicts," Witkoff said, referring to the Ukraine-Russia conflict, the Iranian issue and the Israel-Hamas conflict.
"We hope to settle them before the end of this year," he said.
Witkoff told Fox News that Washington is hoping that elements of a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine will be found by the end of 2025.
"We have technical teams working on it and we are hopeful that by the end of this year and maybe quite a bit sooner we can find the ingredients to get to that peace deal," Witkoff said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin told U.S. President Donald Trump in Alaska that Russia sought to find settlement ways and did not rule out that Kiev might accept Moscow's proposals.
Trump has "plenty of levers," he really wants the conflict to end and wishes to do everything possible "to bring the sides together" and if he can't "to force them together," Witkoff said.
Washington understands that every aspect of the conflict settlement, including security guarantees for Kiev, would have to be addressed, Witkoff said.
He also said he was planning to meet with Ukrainian representatives in New York this week and added that the U.S.-Russian dialogue continued "every day."
