SIBUR considering implementing projects in Uzbekistan

KAZAN. Aug 26 (Interfax) - SIBUR is discussing the possibility of entering petrochemical projects in Uzbekistan, Pavel Lyakhovich, executive director and a member of the management board of SIBUR, said during the Tatarstan petrochemical forum.

"We are discussing with partners there several projects in which we need to participate. However, we are doing what we can do just as well for now. We can develop markets. Our projects related to developing polymer processing in both Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan allow us already to say that [...] there will be the same growth rates in polymer processing in these countries in the near future as there were in Russia several years ago," Lyakhovich said.

Partnership projects to develop polymer processing in Uzbekistan include developing polymer pipeline production for gas and water jointly with the country's Ministry Construction at around 1,100 km of gas distribution pipes for upgrading and polyethylene planned for use; as well as Russia's Polymer Desnogorsk manufacturing high-tech film at a capacity of 7,200 tonnes per year, with three lines having been launched and another three lines planned for launch in 2026, according to Lyakhovich's presentation.

Moreover, the presentation also indicates that two other Russian leaders in the polymer processing industry that manufacture pipelines and polymer packaging are jointly assessing with SIBUR entry into Uzbekistan's market.
