Russian presidential aide Patrushev discusses prospects of transport support to Arctic oil and gas projects during visit to Sabetta

SABETTA, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District. Aug 25 (Interfax) - Russian presidential aide and Maritime Board Chairman Nikolai Patrushev discussed navigation safety in the waters of the Gulf of Ob and technological solutions necessary for it during a visit to Sabetta, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, on Monday.

There was a separate discussion of prospects of transport support to Arctic oil and gas projects and the plans to increase cargo transportation in the waters of the Northern Sea Route.

Sovcomflot Board Chairman Sergei Frank told Patrushev about the prospects of sea transportation via the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor and the use of the Sabetta sea port.

Yamal governor Dmitry Artyukhov and Russian presidential envoy to the Ural Federal District Artyom Zhoga met Patrushev at the Sabetta airport. Artyukhov noted the stably high level of LNG production at one of Russia's largest plants and the role of the Arctic sea route in loading the Northern Sea Route.

Patrushev also visited the Arctic integrated emergency rescue center of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry, which is under construction, and examined the facilities of the Yamal-LNG plant, which produces liquefied natural gas. He also became familiar with the sea terminal facilities of the Sabetta sea port.

The Sabetta sea port, located beyond the polar circle, was built and is functioning in difficult geological, climate and hydrological conditions. It is also a key facility of the Northern Sea Route, the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor. LNG exports from Yamal accounted for more than 60% of the cargo flow on the Northern Sea Route in 2024.
