Gas supplies from Russia to Armenia suspended due to repairs on gas pipeline in Georgia - Gazprom Armenia

YEREVAN. Aug 22 (Interfax) - The supply of natural gas from Russia to Armenia has been temporarily suspended due to repair work in Georgia, CJSC Gazprom Armenia said.

"In connection with the need to carry out emergency restoration work on the Krasny Most - Sevkar-Berd (DN 1000) transit main gas pipeline in Georgia, from 06:00 on August 22 until 06:00 on August 23, the supply of natural gas to Armenia will be temporarily suspended," the company's press service said.

During this period, the uninterrupted gas supply to the country's consumers will be carried out without restrictions using internal reserves and additional volumes of natural gas supplies from Iran.

Gazprom is the sole supplier of natural gas to Armenia. The operator of the gas transportation network is CJSC Gazprom Armenia, a 100% subsidiary of the Russian concern.

Armenia has also been receiving gas from Iran since 2009, processes it into electricity, and exports it to Iran at the rate of 3 kWh for 1 cubic meter of natural gas. The power plants participating in the program generate 4-4.5 kWh of electricity from 1 cubic meter of natural gas from Iran, and the surplus remains in Armenia.

The natural gas supplied from Iran is used exclusively within the framework of the "gas in exchange for electricity" program, the agreement for which is valid until 2030.
