Ukraine's Energoatom Supervisory Board relieves CEO Kotin of duties

MOSCOW. Aug 21 (Interfax) - The Energoatom Supervisory Board has terminated the contract and relieved of duties Energoatom CEO Pyotr Kotin, the decision takes effect immediately, Ukrainian media said, citing a Supervisory Board statement.

"For the purpose of continuous and uninterrupted management of Energoatom, Pavel Kovtonyuk, Rovno NPP general director, has agreed to serve as the acting CEO on a short-term basis," the media quoted the Energoatom statement published on a social network on Thursday.

The Supervisory Board said Kovtonyuk has experience and professional qualities required for this position, which will ensure stable operations of the company and due preparations for the crucial fall-and-winter season.

The Supervisory Board also said that a contest for the CEO and all other positions in the Executive Board would begin shortly. It has been proposed to establish three new key positions, whose of the chief operating officer, the vice president for management and ethnics, and the vice president for finance and strategy.

As reported, there were three members of the Energoatom Executive Board, namely Kotin, Vice President, acting Executive Board member Hartmut Jacob, and acting First Vice President, Chief Technology Officer Alexander Ostapovets. Kotin headed Energoatom in April 2020. His career started at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant in 1985.

Kovtonyuk has been in charge of the Rovno NPP since June 2022. Prior to that, he served as the Rovno NPP chief engineer.

The Ukrainian government recently amended the Energoatom Charter to increase the number of Supervisory Board members from five to seven. Currently, the Supervisory Board has four members, among them Supervisory Board Chairman Jarek Neverovic, his deputy Michael Elliott Kirst, and government representatives Timofei Milovanov and Vitaly Petruk. The third independent member of the Supervisory Board, Timothy Stone, refused to sign the contract.

The Ukrainian government plans to finalize the formation of supervisory boards of energy companies by the end of this year.
