Rosatom to begin installing nuclear equipment for power units of Baimsky MPP at start of 2026
NIZHNY NOVGOROD. Aug 21 (Interfax) - Rosatom state corporation expects to begin installing nuclear equipment for the power units supplying the Baimsky Mining and Processing Plant (MPP) at the beginning of 2026, the head of the company Alexei Likhachev told journalists.
"A separate point of our pride is the 'floating units'. We will begin installing the nuclear equipment at the beginning of next year directly on the two power units for the Baimsky project," he said.
Rosatom is implementing a project for four floating power units with a capacity of 424 MW to supply power to the Baimsky MPP, with the first unit to be commissioned in 2028 and the fourth in 2031.
At the same time, Andrei Maximov, a department head at the Energy Ministry, said in May this year regarding the nuclear power plant project for the Baimsky MPP that "we see certain difficulties in implementation from the perspective of the other party; that is, there are also certain difficulties on the consumer side. A rather large capacity has been designed by colleagues for the consumer, but the contracting in this regard is currently delayed."
