Arkhangelsk port receives first Chinese vessel in 2025 via Arctic Express N1 route

ST. PETERSBURG. Aug 15 (Interfax) - The port of Arkhangelsk has received the first vessel from China in 2025, arriving via the Arctic Express N1 logistics route, the press service for the Arkhangelsk region governor and regional authorities said.

The vessel Newnew Polar Bear delivered 497 containers with auto parts, PVC film and steel to Arkhangelsk. Subsequently, all cargo will be sent to Russian enterprises.

"Already at the beginning of next week, we'll load export cargo onto the vessel - products from our timber industry that are in high demand in China. In approximately just over three weeks, products from Arkhangelsk enterprises will be delivered to the destination port," Arkhangelsk region Governor Alexander Tsybulsky said on his Telegram channel.

In July 2024, China's NewNew Shipping Line launched the new Arctic Express N1 trade route, which passes through the Northern Sea Route (NSR). It connected China's main ports, Shanghai and Ningbo, with Arkhangelsk via the NSR. The region expects up to 20 vessel calls from China in 2025, which is twice as many as in 2024.

NewNew Shipping Line may also participate in the project to build the deep-water section of Arkhangelsk seaport. The company, as reported citing Tsybulsky, is ready to invest up to 200 billion rubles in the project.

During the Arctic - Regions forum held in Arkhangelsk in July, Tsybulsky said that the deep-water port section project "is already in the implementation phase."

The project, planned until 2032, envisages handling cargo vessels with deadweight up to 75,000 tonnes and draft up to 14.5 meters. It is planned that the deep-water section of Arkhangelsk port will have five terminals.

Capital expenditure for constructing the deep-water section of Arkhangelsk seaport is estimated at 375 billion rubles.
