Armenia's appellate criminal court rules Tashir Group president Karapetyan's arrest illegal

YEREVAN. Aug 11 (Interfax) - An appellate court in Armenia has ruled that the arrest in Yerevan of Armenian-born Russian businessman and Tashir Group's president Samvel Karapetyan was illegal.

"The appellate criminal court of Armenia has found the arrest of Samvel Karapetyan to be illegal. The court confirmed that the arrest of Karapetyan on June 18, 2025 was illegal, resulting in his illegal detention in custody for about nine and more hours," his legal team said in a statement.

The court confirmed the occurrence of "yet another of the illegal acts allowed to occur in this criminal process, and that the lower court failed to take this important circumstance into account when ordering [the two-month arrest]," the statement said.

On June 18, a court in Yerevan placed Karapetyan under arrest for two months on the charge of calls for a government takeover.
