Rosatom plans to begin mining at Shirodukui project in Trans-Baikal by 2028
MOSCOW. Aug 8 (Interfax) - Rosatom's subsidiaries have received positive approval from the Main Department of State Expertise (Glavgosexpertiza) for the project to develop the Shirodukui deposit in Trans-Baikal.
According to Rosatom's mining division, the next phase of the Shirodukui project will involve launching construction of surface infrastructure, with the project operator - Priargunsky Industrial Mining and Chemical Union (PIMCU) - set to begin work in 2025. Currently, underground mine development is underway at the fourth level of mine no. 1, required to access the Shirodukui deposit. Production is scheduled to commence in 2028.
The Shirodukui molybdenum-uranium deposit forms part of the Streltsovsky uranium ore district, located 8 km from Krasnokamensk. PIMCU acquired the license for the deposit in February 2025. Estimated uranium reserves (categories C1+C2) total approximately 8,000 tonnes, with molybdenum reserves (category C2) amounting to 40 tonnes.
