Some $14 bln - $15 bln to be invested in building Kazakhstan's first NPP, another $1 bln in infrastructure - Nuclear Energy Agency head

ULKEN, Almaty region. Aug 8 (Interfax) - It may cost $14 billion to $15 billion to build a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan, Nuclear Energy Agency head Almasadam Satkaliyev said.

"Investment in this project will roughly stand at $14 billion to $15 billion," Satkaliyev said at a ceremony to launch the NPP construction.

Another $1 billion will be invested in building social facilities and modern infrastructure around the NPP, Satkaliyev said.

Nuclear power plants of the type to be built in Kazakhstan cost at least $14 billion globally, Satkaliyev said earlier. The cost of building the plant may be reviewed upon drafting a feasibility study. As the Kazakh authorities said earlier, a feasibility study will be ready in December 2025.
