Ukraine plans to terminate further agreements with Russia, Belarus within CIS

MOSCOW. Aug 6 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian government has proposed that the Verkhovna Rada agree on the denunciation of another batch of agreements once signed with Russia and Belarus within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

This decision was adopted at a government meeting on Wednesday, Ukrainian media reported citing Ukrainian government envoy to the parliament Taras Melnichuk.

These include a bill approving Ukraine's withdrawal from the agreement on mutual recognition of the overall work record and the period of service in the Prosecutor Offices of the CIS member states, signed in Moscow on November 25, 1998, as well as a bill on the termination, withdrawal from and denunciation of international treaties concluded by the Ukrainian government with the Russian and Belarusian governments within the CIS.

Specifically, Ukraine plans to terminate its participation in the October 30, 1997 agreement with Russia on mutual recognition of debt for delivered energy resources and fissile materials, the December 22, 2000 agreement with Russia on the terms for reserve supplies and payments for Russian natural gas delivered to Ukraine in 2001, the June 21, 2002 agreement with Russia on a state loan to finance the completion of nuclear power plants' construction in Ukraine, and the May 21, 2004 protocol with Belarus on the phased abolition of free trade exemptions.

Ukraine also plans to withdraw from the March 27, 1997 agreement on cooperation in exploration, survey and use of mineral resources and raw materials, the June 4, 1999 agreement on measures to prevent and stop the use of false trademarks and geographical indications, the October 18, 2011 agreement on the procedure for transferring samples of narcotic and psychotropic substances and their precursors, and the December 23, 1993 agreement on the general conditions and mechanisms for supporting the development of manufacturing cooperation between enterprises and industries of the CIS member countries.
