Putin, Witkoff discuss Ukraine crisis, prospects for possible development of U.S.-Russia strategic cooperation - Kremlin aide Ushakov

MOSCOW. Aug 6 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff discussed the Ukraine crisis and the prospects for the possible development of strategic cooperation between the United States and Russia at their meeting, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov told journalists.

"As regards the topics, it is certainly the Ukraine crisis, first and foremost. The second issue is the prospects for the possible development of strategic cooperation between the U.S. and Russia," Ushakov said.

Putin and Witkoff had a useful and constructive conversation, Ushakov told journalists.

Russia sent certain messages concerning Ukraine to the United States and also received some messages from Trump, Ushakov said.

"We sent certain messages particularly on the Ukraine issue. Some messages were also received from President Trump," Ushakov told journalists.

"The situation is such that our president possesses all information now. Our messages and messages from President Trump. But the outcomes of this meeting haven't yet been reported to Trump. Therefore, I'd refrain from more detailed comments. Let's see when Witkoff can present a report on today's conversation to Trump. After that, obviously, we'll be able to complement my current comments with something more significant," Ushakov said.

Meanwhile, Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) head, Special Presidential Representative for Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries Kirill Dmitriev said that the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff was the continuation of the constructive dialogue between Russia and the United States.

"Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov and I were present at the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the U.S. president's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. The constructive dialogue between Russia and the U.S. is continuing," Dmitriev said on his Telegram channel.

The presidential press service told Interfax that the meeting lasted for about three hours.

Witkoff came to Moscow early on Wednesday morning and was met by Dmitriev at the airport, an informed source told Interfax earlier.

This is the fifth visit of Witkoff to Russia this year. The previous visit to Moscow was paid on April 25, when he was also received by the Russian president.
