Moldovan parliament endorses extension of state of economic emergency until Aug 31

CHISINAU. Aug 6 (Interfax) - The Supreme Council of the unrecognized Transdniestrian Moldovan Republic endorsed the Transdniestrian leader's order issued on Tuesday to extend the state of economic emergency in Transdniestria until August 31 at a special meeting on Wednesday, the parliament said in a press release.

"The Supreme Council has endorsed the order of the Transdniestrian president extending the state of economic emergency in the republic until August 31. The problem of stable gas supply to the republic remains unsolved, which continues to exacerbate the economic crisis in Transdniestria," the parliament press service said.

Transdniestria introduced economic state of emergency on December 11, 2024 for 30 days due to a risk of ceasing Russian gas supplies, which happened on January 1, 2025. Then the state of emergency was prolonged for 30 days six times. The parliament extended the state of emergency for the last time on July 9, it was due to expire on August 9.

As reported earlier, the state of emergency envisages saving of natural gas and other energy resources, forming the state energy reserves, introducing a special procedure for buying natural gas and other energy resources, and banning energy exports.

It also imposes limits on the movement of goods and funds and the provision of services and enacts a special procedure for selling, buying and distributing foods and essentials.

During the state of emergency, some constitutional rights and freedoms of a person and citizen may be limited. These include the freedom of labor, the right to freely dispose of one's abilities to work, to choose a type of activity and profession, the ban on forced labor, the right to strikes, the right to rest and working hours established by law, and the right of an owner to use and dispose of his property at his own discretion.
