MINSK. Aug 4 (Interfax) - More than 2,000 cars are waiting for their turn to cross the Belarusian-Polish border, as their number has grown over the weekend, the Belarusian State Border Committee said in a statement on Monday.
"In total, 2,070 cars and 55 buses are standing at the only Polish checkpoint available to cars, Terespol (Brest). The line for crossing into Poland has grown by 520 cars. The neighboring side has admitted 39% of the standard number of vehicles in the past two days," the statement said.
The road to Lithuania is the most jammed for trucks, the statement said, with 920 trucks waiting to cross through the Salcininkai (Benyakoni) and Medininkai (Kamenny Log) checkpoints. Those checkpoints cleared only 19% of the regular number of vehicles.
The Latvian Patarnieki (Grigorovshchina) checkpoint cleared 35% of the regular number of trucks since Friday, while 615 trucks are waiting for admission to the EU territory.
The largest number of trucks is stranded near the Polish checkpoint Kukuryki (Kozlovichi). Polish border guards cleared 37% of trucks over the past two days. Twenty trucks were waiting to be cleared at the checkpoint on Monday morning.
