Surgutneftegas reduces greenhouse gas emissions 3% in 2024 - report

MOSCOW. July 30 (Interfax) - Surgutneftegas reduced greenhouse gas emissions from oil production and gas processing 3% year-on-year to 1.52 million tonnes in CO2 equivalent in 2024, the company said in its environmental report.

The key measures were the rational use of associated petroleum gas, with utilization totaling 99.16% in 2024, as well as commissioning small-scale energy facilities that assist in reducing gas flaring. The company emphasizes that 100% of its flares are equipped with gas meters.

Surgutneftegas also said that the company annually prevents greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere totaling 20 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent.

The company's primary share of direct greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere in 2024 came from fuel consumption at 69%, from the combustion of associated petroleum gas by flare units at 19%, and from fugitive emissions at 12%.

As reported, Surgutneftegas allocated nearly 40 billion rubles to implement the Ecology program in 2024, and the company plans to invest over 35.5 billion rubles in the program in 2025.
