Azerbaijan boosts gas supplies to Turkey 1.9% to nearly 4.8 bcm in January-May
BAKU. July 28 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan boosted gas exports to Turkey 1.9% year-on-year to around 4.772 billion cubic meters in January-May 2025, according to the materials of the Energy Market Regulatory Authority of Turkey (EPDK).
Azerbaijan exported around 4.598 bcm of gas under a long-term agreement and 173.65 million cubic meters on a spot basis out of the total volume of exports.
Azerbaijan increased gas supplies to Turkey 4.8% year-on-year to nearly 1.057 bcm in May, including 989.06 million cubic meters under a long-term agreement and 67.93 million cubic meters on spot.
Turkey imported around 3.539 bcm of gas in May, up 22.8%, with pipeline gas accounting for around 3.161 bcm, or 89.32% of all supplies, up 35.3%; and liquefied natural gas (LNG) accounting for 377.81 million cubic meters, or 10.68% of all supplies, down 30.79%.
Turkey imported gas from Azerbaijan, Russia, Iran, and Turkmenistan by pipeline in May, and from the United States and Algeria as LNG. Turkmenistan supplied 120.03 million cubic meters of gas in May.
Azerbaijan placed second in terms of volume at 29.87% of the overall amount to Turkey, with Russia placing first at 33.7% of all supplies, Iran placing third at 22.37%, Algeria placing fourth at 7.96%, Turkmenistan placing fifth place at 3.39%, and the U.S. placing sixth at 2.71%.
Azerbaijani gas produced as part of Stage 1 and Stage 2 to develop the Shah Deniz field is supplied to Turkey.
EPDK data indicate that, Azerbaijan boosted gas exports to Turkey 11.9% year-on-year to around 11.478 bcm in 2024. Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov has said that the country plans to supply 10 bcm of gas to Turkey this year.
