Trump confirms possibility of secondary sanctions on Russia in case of lack of progress on Ukraine

WASHINGTON. July 25 (Interfax) - The United States could still impose secondary sanctions on Russia in the absence of success with settling the situation in Ukraine, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday.

"We're looking at that whole situation, it could be that we'll have to put secondary sanctions," Trump said when asked by a journalist whether the U.S. was getting closer to imposing such sanctions.

On July 14 the U.S. leader gave 50 days for Russia and Ukraine to sign a peace agreement, he said.

He did not say whether he had a scheduled meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin any time soon.

Earlier this month, Trump said that Washington could impose secondary 100% duties for Russian oil buyers and other sanctions unless Moscow agreed a peace deal with Kiev within 50 days.
