London adds 135 oil tankers to anti-Russian sanctions lists - UK Foreign Office
LONDON. July 21 (Interfax) - The UK authorities have added 135 vessels to the sanctions lists against Russia, which, according to London, are linked to Russia, the UK Foreign Office said in a statement.
"The new sanctions further crack down on [...] shadow fleet operations, targeting 135 oil tankers which form part of the fleet responsible for illicitly carrying $24 billion worth of cargo since the start of 2024," the statement said.
These restrictions followed at a time when the European Union and the UK lowered the price cap on Russian oil, the statement said.
It was reported last week that the 18th package of anti-Russian sanctions included restrictive measures against 105 oil tankers, which, as the EU says, are involved in the shipping of oil from Russia.
The EU also lowered the price cap on Russian oil, which was set by the Group of Seven (G7) countries, to $47.6 per barrel as part of the 18th sanctions package. The G7 has earlier set a price cap at $60 per barrel.
For its part, the Financial Times said that lowering the price cap is an EU initiative in this regard, since there is no consensus on this issue at the G7 level.
