China's JA Solar to supply PV modules for two solar plants in Azerbaijan

BAKU. July 17 (Interfax) - China's JA Solar will supply 1 gigawatt of high-efficiency DeepBlue 4.0 Pro PV modules for the Nefthala and Bilasuvar solar power projects in Azerbaijan being developed by Masdar of the UAE, the Chinese company said in a press release.

The modules are engineered to perform in challenging coastal environments, characterized by high humidity, salinity, strong winds and airborne dust, "ensuring long-term durability, stable output, and improved system performance," it said.

The cost of the contract was not disclosed.

The ground-breaking ceremonies for the Bilasuvar SPP with capacity of 445 MW and the 315 MW Neftchala SPP took place during the Baku Energy Week in June 2024. The plants are set to be commissioned in 2027 and will produce more than 1.7 billion kWh of electricity in total.

Launching the SPPs will lead to annual savings of 380 million cubic meters of natural gas and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 830,000 tonnes a year. The overall cost of the plants is $670 million.
